Yelena is the little girl who grew up looking up to Natasha. She guides us through the movie, and we relate to her. What Yelena does for the Black Widow movie, is that she is the relatable character. From the sidelines, of course, because Marvel has been sexist for years. Whenever Natasha is in a film, she’s the one guiding the audience through it’s events. Natasha has always been our guide through Marvel films. Yelena does take on part of Natasha’s role in this film though. Yelena eventually gets a dog- and names it after Natasha (’s alias, Fanny Longbottom).Yelena tries her first superhero pose- to copy/make fun of Natasha.Yelena killed Draykov and almost sacrificed herself- for Natasha.Yelena proudly shows off the first purchase she made for herself- and she gifts it to Natasha. At the beginning of the film, Yelena got the antidote- and sent it to Natasha.Yelena’s storyline in the film is so intricately connected to Natasha, you can’t really make a comment about Yelena without referencing Natasha. Most of Yelena’s actions in the film, are connected to Natasha, in some way. No, I don’t think Yelena took over Natasha in her own film. Black Widow comic book black widow anons phil noto seriously if anyone deserves love from black widow fans it's phil noto It really is up to whoever is on the creative team to do a good job, no matter the medium. I was very excited about Tales of Suspense until #103, I wasn’t impressed with where they went with the story there, but it was ok and the artist did a great job.Īnyway, I guess you can say I have mixed feelings about the comics just like I have mixed feelings about the MCU. Noto’s was the best but the previous run was pretty good too. There’s just not a lot of stories that have cool artwork. I honestly don’t understand why Black Widow stories suffer so much art-wise. Or whenever an artist comes along with frames that are 3% dialogue, 10% background and 87% boobs. Generally the artwork is of big importance to me, which is why I couldn’t really enjoy stories like the Deadly Origin. Notably though, Black Widow didn’t really have a substantial solo run before Noto (which, he points out at an interview, that he wasn’t really following up on someone else’s run), and I guess we should thank the MCU for bringing more attention to the character and, consequently, making her comic book presence stronger as well. Plus they team her up with some pretty awesome characters (extra points for X-23). I wasn’t impressed with the ending but, honestly, who cares when you have pages like this: I mean, the design, the story, the way they explore the character’s skills, allow her emotions to develop, don’t overly sexualize her it. Yeah Name of the Rose is my favourite, I think it’s Black Widow at her best and it is wonderfully illustrated as well :DĪlso (and I know this should actually be a given for a Black Widow fan) I’m forever in love with the Phil Noto run.
